WORLD PSORIASIS DAY this year-we are very busy we are attending the BSR-annual rheumatology meeting next week,in Glasgow, Monday -Friday, with our charity stand.to raise awareness of our work here-and the condition-psoriatic arthritis. ITS LONG HOURS-8.30 ONWARDS. then we are taking part in a national Scots Psoriasis seminar, hosted by LEO PHARMA-1ST JUNE, AT GLASGOW UNIVERSITY.There are many top speakers. two of us are giving a powerpoint presentation. we are running our display again in parliament in September, our own seminar in GLASGOW, in October-open to all.-28th. DINNER AND FORUM IN PARLIAMENT IN NOVEMBER, WITH TOP SPEAKERS AND PATIENT INVOLVEMENT. all this, WHICH needs a lot of planning, means we don`t have time-as disabled volunteers, to run specific events for this years WORLD PSO DAY-29TH OCTOBER, as we did last year, we are just a small committee. Maybe YOUD` like to do something to mark this-in your area? let us know. even just to make your local press aware, or local radio. perhaps a coffee morning, quiz, etc., handout leaflets at work/school ? it all helps and everyone can do something! THOUSANDS of arthritis sufferers could benefit from a new pill being developed by scientists at Edinburgh's Western General Hospital.
The researchers are aiming to produce a mass-market tablet which would provide rheumatoid arthritis sufferers with a more powerful treatment than is currently widely available. The most effective treatment available for patients at the moment is known as anti-TNF therapy. However, the treatment is so expensive only 750 patients in Scotland receive it, and patients have to undergo the discomfort of a series of injections. The Western General scientists believe they can develop a tablet which would replace the existing anti-TNF therapy. |

Research has suggested all painkillers in a class of drugs, including ibuprofen and naproxen, could be linked to an increased risk of heart attack.
The drugs belong to a family known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. Last year, trials raised concerns over two NSAIDs and one of them, Vioxx, was taken off the market. The authors of the study, in the British Medical Journal, said patients should not stop taking the drugs, but called for further investigations. |
